Sun D'Or was founded on October 1, 1977, as a subsidiary of EL AL, originally under the name EL AL Charter Services Ltd.
In 1981, the airline was renamed Sun D'Or International Airlines.
In 2024/2025, the brand was relaunched with a new livery on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, featuring a "sun, sky, and sea" theme with a wave inspired design. The second refreshed aircraft entered service in December 2024.
The name combines the English word "sun" with the French "d'or" (meaning "gold"), together symbolizing a Golden Sun.
Sun D'Or is based at Ben Gurion Airport and remains a subsidiary of EL AL.
The airline primarily operates seasonal routes, designed to meet market demand and offer flexible travel options.
